Internships

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee is always seeking passionate and talented individuals to intern with us. These positions are great opportunities to familiarize oneself with the local political process, gain the skills necessary to become valuable staff members of a political campaign, and interact with numerous elected officials across the county and state. Course credit is available to any interested students.

Intern job responsibilities fall into three general categories:

Communications

Duties include:

  • Assisting in compiling weekly e-blasts containing relevant news stories from the week and upcoming events to 5,000 subscribers using NGP (training will be provided)
  • Assisting in maintaining Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • Assisting in keeping the website updated with ACDC news, events, as well as stories from state and national politics
  • Increasing size of ACDC social media network

Office Work

Duties include:

  • Maintaining list of 3,500 committee members
  • Creating lists in Votebuilder (voter file – training will be provided)
  • Great opportunity to learn about local political structure and gain proficiency with Votebuilder/VAN (the most widely used programs in Democratic campaigns)
  • Large-scale event planning, including annual Endorsement Meeting in March
  • Answering phone calls

Fundraising

Duties include:

  • Large-scale event planning
  • Donor research
  • Data input

Commonwealth, which redrew Pennsylvania’s legislative map for the 2018 mid-term elections and beyond, and its implications for further redistricting reform efforts in Pennsylvania and across the country.

    Anna Fisher, Associate Professor, Carnegie Mellon University and Staff Member, Fair Districts PA

    Ben Geffen, Staff Attorney, Public Interest Law Center and Co-Chair, ACS Philadelphia Lawyer Chapter

    Ruth Greenwood, Senior Legal Counsel, Campaign Legal Center

    Mr. Geffen served as one of the Plantiff's attorneys in this case, and Ms. Greenwood is a national expert in redistricting cases. Ms. Fisher's organization, Fair Districts PA, is a nonpartisan citizen's group working to stop gerrymandering.

    Black Women for Positive Change and Aunt Cheryl's Catering will join police from Braddock, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Rankin and local residents to explore concepts of implicit bias and working to deepen the collective understanding of how to recognize and address the unconscious or subtle associations that individuals make between groups of people and stereotypes about those groups based on race, color, gender, sexual orientation and religion. 


    "The goal of the program is to strengthen the relationship between members of the community and the officers who serve them." says Diane Powell, Chairperson of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Black Women for Positive Change
